With a stunning view and barely a two-minute walk from San Pedro’s tourist center, La Terraza has a menu filled with classic European breakfast foods, such as omelets, crepes, bagels, and so on. Their Eggs Benedict (30Q) is by far one of their most popular specialties. While the eggs might not be perfectly poached every time, the creamy homemade sauce and grilled ham more than make up for it. It also comes with a small fruit salad with strawberries, pineapple, papaya, and whatever else is in season.
For a more local-feeling breakfast, there are a few options such as the Pancho Villa (25Q), similar to a Guatemalan desayuno tipico (typical breakfast). The dish, named after the Mexican revolutionary, features fried eggs atop a crispy toasted tortilla, accompanied by guacamole, fried plantains, beans and fresh cheese.
La Terraza is open every day from 8am to 4pm, and the breakfast items are served all day, but you can also opt for a panini (all 35Q) if you’re looking for a meal in the afternoon. The Mushroom Panini is jam packed with olives, ham, mushrooms and a piquant pesto sauce that makes for a classic, filling sandwich. With a small salad on the side, their paninis make for an excellent mid-day fuel up.
If you’re on a budget, there’s plenty of cheap options as well – the Vegetable Omelet is only 15Q, and comes with a side of crispy, light garlic bread. A bagel with cream cheese will set you back 10Q – the same price, believe it or not, as their homemade brownie, a must-try.
La Terraza’s drink menu is also very extensive, offering a wide variety of teas, juices, and soft drinks, but the real attraction is the selection of licaudos. A single-fruit smoothie costs a mere 5Q, while more complex combinations are priced at 8Q or 10Q. But at 12Q you can indulge in the special smoothies such as their non-alcoholic Blood Mary, a thick mix of tomatoes, onion, celery, jalapenos and lemon, or their Oreo smoothie, made from banana, mango, Oreo cookies and milk.
The styling and décor are worth a note as well – the menus are clean and professional, and when paired with the sleek, concrete design, make you feel like you could be in a classy bistro in New York. The service is quick and clean, and the food is always well presented, which does nothing but add to the trendy atmosphere. For a stylish and elegant breakfast experience, La Terraza is the perfect place to start the day.
