Casa Argentina is a large hostel and boarding house that provides basic accommodations in the south-west of Quetzaltenango’s Zone 1. They offer beds in large dormitories, rooms with shared facilities, and rooms with private bathrooms and showers. Private rooms with shared facilities cost Q 40 per person. Rooms can be arranged with one, two, three or four beds.
The hostel shares space with Quetzaltrekkers, a charitable hiking and trekking operation that arranges day-trips and multi-day hikes to and around many of Guatemala’s most beautiful outdoor destinations. Many backpackers anticipating a trek with Quetzaltrekkers choose to lodge in Casa Argentina prior to their trip.
Casa Argentina is comprised of some thirty rooms, spread across multiple buildings loosely surrounding a central terrace. Second story rooms offer a view of Xela’s bustling zone 1 with some mountainous landscape visible beyond the rooftops.
Accommodations at the hostel include reasonable wifi (available in most common areas), drinking water and access to a very simple kitchen and laundry area. Casa Argentina is about a ten minute walk from the central park, around which are many of the restaurants, bars, cafés and shops popular in Xela’s Zone 1.
To make reservations, call or email. Walk-ins are welcome as well, but space cannot be guaranteed.
