Guatemala Travel Guide: Lanquín

This Lanquín travel guide consists of a brief overview of the area as well as curated short-lists of hostels, blog posts, travel tips and photos. Further information about Lanquín is available elsewhere on the site (most site sections are searchable by destination), but this simple travel guide is definitely the best starting point.

Getting to Lanquín

Lanquín is along the eastern border of the department of Alta Verapaz, in the central, eastern part of Guatemala. Access roads to Lanquín are fairly poor; at least a few hours of the trip to Lanquín regardless of your starting point will be conducted along very rough gravel roads. While routes to Lanquín via public transit are possible, they're not efficient. Most public transit will take at least two days due to there not being late buses from Coban or Cahabón connecting to Lanquín. The easiest way to get to Lanquín is via shuttle. You can reserve at shuttle easily at just about any hostel in the country.

Booking with your hostel often provides some protection against scheduling mis-haps. If you'd rather book direct with a transportation company, check out Coban Travels and Lanquín Services. The websites aren't great, you'll want to call (or ask someone to call if you can't speak Spanish).
